Kriste Michelini Gallery is pleased to present WATERLINE, a two-person exhibition featuring Bay Area artists Julia Foug and Elizabeth Geisler, opening Thursday, September 10, with a reception from 5–7:30 PM.

Waterline explores the beauty and atmosphere of water as the lazy days of summer begin to give way to the quieter, more reflective mood of fall. Through distinctly different approaches, Foug and Geisler capture the changing light, color, movement and emotion found along the water’s edge.

Foug’s expressive figurative paintings explore quiet, unguarded moments of the human form. Her figures often appear alone and absorbed in their surroundings, allowing gesture, posture and environment to suggest a story left open for the viewer to complete.

Geisler turns her attention to the water itself, creating immersive paintings that capture reflections, shifting light and the constant movement of the surface. Her work evokes both the energy and meditative quality of being near water.

Together, the artists create a thoughtful dialogue between figure and landscape, movement and stillness, observation and reflection. “I’m always drawn to artwork that brings a sense of place and atmosphere into a room,” says gallery founder and interior designer Kriste Michelini. “These artists approach water very differently, but together the work feels beautifully connected. There’s a wonderful balance of calm, movement and color that I think will really resonate in the gallery—and in the spaces where these pieces ultimately live.”
